What Happens in a Session?

As a Somatic Therapist, I’m interested in supporting all parts of you — body, mind, emotions, and ways of being in relationship with the world.

Rooted in the theoretical frameworks of Somatic Experiencing and Gestalt Psychotherapy, I believe that humans are inherently designed with the propensity to heal and move their life in a full & fluid way.

However, when faced with overwhelming experiences, we can become stuck and lose access to all parts of our selves — resulting in fixated patterns, feelings, beliefs, thoughts, or nervous system adaptations.

Whether or not this how we’d hope to cope, all of these responses are our best way to tolerate what feels intolerable in the moment and often happen automatically and out of conscious awareness.

As a therapist, I see my task as working with you to help broaden your awareness of how this stuckness manifests in your life and to support the possibility of experiencing it differently.

To do so, I work with you to explore what happens for you in the here-and-now as a a result of what was experienced there-and-then. We'll get curious about the felt side of your story, the meanings you make, places you feel stuck, and ways of actively engaging with your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and behaviours to support the possibility of feeling something in a new way.

How We'll Get There

How We'll Get There

Move

Moving your body helps to sense your body.

Informed by Somatic Movement & Movement for Trauma, we’ll explore shapes and sequences aimed restoring nervous system regulation, reconnecting to sensation, and increasing access to feel & tend to your body in a supportive way.

Talk

Talking tell us how your story is felt and what may feel stuck..

As you talk about your experiences, we’ll get curious about the felt side of the story, the meanings you make, and ways you respond to what happened there-and-then in the here-and-now.

Try

Experiencing aids awareness & supports feeling the “unsticking”.

Together, we’ll explore ways of actively engaging with your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and ways of being to support the possibility of feeling something in a new way.

Ultimately, I’ll work with you to explore feeling back into your fullness, seeing the ways relational, body-based practices can unstick what gets in your way, and restoring your felt sense of nervous system resiliency.
